TotalFinder

cameronmoll:

For me, the Mac OS X Finder has been broken since 10.0 was released. It’s a hassle to move files from one location to another.

I’ve been using this TotalFinder plug-in for a couple weeks now to add much-needed tabs to the Finder. I’m discovering, however, that tabs aren’t the right UI pattern for what I need. Instead, Transmit-esque, side-by-side panes would probably be more efficient than tabs for file management. After all, this is what I’ve been doing for years now anyway when moving multiple files from one location to another — open Finder, Command-N to open a second Finder window, position the two windows side-by-side.

Update: This borders on Finder overkill, but Path Finder offers side-by-side pane viewing (among a load of other stuff). Thanks @3rdmartini for the find.

When is Apple going to fix the Finder themselves, I wonder.
